[Ad] need a break from coding?

After two months of private beta testing, I am now in a position to offer an off-site MySQL database backup service for any body who is interested. I originally set-up this service for my own database projects, and later extended it to all my freelance clients. The service runs on a dedicated VPS server which is located at Telehouse which is a major carrier neutral colocation provider based in the docklands area of London.

The server has been set-up to take a complete MySQL dump of an entire database every morning at 1am GMT, and I make the compressed backups (.TGZ) available for retrieval via a secure password protected web application running on my business site.

How Much Does The Backup Service Cost ?

The offsite MySQL backup service cost $15 per month for upto five databases. Recurring payments will be made via PayPal.

• upto five MySQL database can be backed up each morning.
• each database can be upto 100GB in size.
• access to daily reports to show the status of your backups.
• access to retrieve your backups via a secure web application.
• reschedule the backup if 1am GMT is not convenient, we pick your sites quietest time to perform the backup.
• the service keeps weekly and monthly snapshots as well as nightly backups.

What Information Do I Need To Provide?

To perform the backups for you, I will need the following information for each of your databases.

• The IP address of the database server.
• Your MySQL username and password, preferably a username with read-only access.

If you hosting provider does not allow different levels of access to your MySQL databases, then I recommend you consider switching to provider that does, such as Pair Networks.
